mortgage insurance FICO 760+ new business mix is the share of new insurance written on mortgages with borrower FICO scores of 760 or higher.
Why it matters
The metric provides a compact view of the upper end of the credit-quality distribution in newly insured business. MGIC reported that 51.7% of 2025 primary new insurance written carried FICO scores of 760 or above, compared with 50.9% in 2024.
Investor caution
FICO mix is not a complete underwriting scorecard. Loan-to-value, debt-to-income, loan purpose, geography, borrower equity, and policy pricing matter alongside credit score, and portfolio performance depends on how those characteristics interact over time.
