Offshore drilling revenue efficiency measures how effectively contracted rig time converts into realized drilling revenue.

Transocean defines the metric as actual operating revenue, excluding specified termination and reimbursement revenue, divided by the maximum revenue the drilling units could have earned during the measurement period.

Revenue efficiency is a contract-conversion measure

Transocean reported total fleet average revenue efficiency of 96.5% in 2025.

That does not mean 96.5% of the fleet was utilized.

It means contracted operations realized 96.5% of the defined maximum revenue opportunity during the measurement period.

That is why revenue efficiency is analytically separate from Offshore Rig Utilization.

Alternative contractual rates create leakage

Offshore drilling contracts can specify different rates for different operating states.

Transocean identifies examples including:

  • waiting-on-weather rates;

Other offshore drillers may disclose operating days, utilization, dayrates, downtime, or revenue guidance without publishing the same metric.
