Giancarlo Devasini is Tether's chairman, and Forbes attributes most of his fortune to an estimated large personal stake in the private stablecoin issuer. [1][2]
How the fortune was built
Devasini helped build Tether into the largest issuer of dollar-linked stablecoins. Forbes estimates that he owns about 45% of the private company, but Tether does not disclose or confirm that personal percentage in the company materials used here. [1][2]
His wealth therefore depends less on salary than on the economics of a large private-company interest. The important bridge is ownership: if Forbes's estimate is directionally right, a substantial fraction of Tether's enterprise value accrues economically to Devasini even though the stake itself is not publicly traded or company-confirmed. [1]
The business behind the wealth
Tether said in March 2025 that Devasini was moving from chief financial officer to chairman of the group after playing a central role in the company's expansion. The company describes him as a long-time leader in the development of USDt and its broader strategy. [2]
Tether reported more than $10 billion of net profit for 2025, with nearly $193 billion of reserve assets at year-end and more than $141 billion of direct and indirect exposure to U.S. Treasuries. Those company economics help explain why an estimated private-company stake can support a very large external wealth estimate, while also making clear that company reserves and profits are not themselves Devasini's personal assets.
