Base case is our central scenario. Bear and bull cases show how uncertainty around private holdings, retained proceeds, taxes and liabilities can move the estimate.
Rankings use the current base-case estimate and show the wider bear-to-bull range on the full list.
Switch scenarios to see how the total and each component move together. The bars show each positive component's share of the estimated assets in that scenario, not audited holdings.
Forbes estimated Harris earned $15M between June 2012 and June 2013, saying most of the income came from How I Met Your Mother. The following year, Forbes reported that his final-season salary had reached $400,000 per episode.
Those figures establish the scale of the sitcom cash flow directly. They overlap rather than represent separate current assets, and they do not reveal how much was lost to taxes and costs or how much was retained in investments and other holdings.
Harris has also worked across Broadway, hosting, film, endorsements and production, so the sitcom was not his only source of income. Public reporting, however, does not provide enough current contract and ownership detail to assign those activities a separate present value.
The same limitation applies to How I Met Your Mother residuals and any syndication participation. The estimate therefore reflects proven peak earning power while leaving current private assets and liabilities materially uncertain.
Sources[1][2]A reported salary, company sale or brand valuation is not automatically current personal wealth. We show the pieces that can be tied to retained evidence and keep historical flows separate.
The estimate uses a Forbes annual-earnings observation and final-season episode pay as overlapping historical-flow evidence. Current residuals, stage income, endorsements, producer interests, investments and liabilities remain unpriced where public economics are incomplete.

Forbes estimated Harris earned $15M between June 2012 and June 2013, with most of the income attributed to How I Met Your Mother. Forbes later reported a $400,000-per-episode salary for the show’s final season. The range recognizes repeated high television earnings and a diversified entertainment career while leaving present residuals, stage income, endorsements, investments, property and liabilities unresolved.
