Movie theater admissions revenue per patron measures ticket revenue generated for each attendee.

AMC reported $12.11 of consolidated average ticket price in the second quarter of 2026. Cinemark reported $8.48 worldwide, while its U.S. average ticket price was $10.83.

Ticket yield can move independently of attendance

Pricing actions, premium-format mix, subscriptions, geography, and film mix can all change realized ticket revenue per guest.

That is why ticket yield belongs beside attendance, not in place of it. It also needs the film exhibition cost rate, because a higher ticket dollar does not all remain with the exhibitor.

Premium formats and subscriptions can push in opposite directions

AMC said Q2 U.S. average ticket price was affected by higher ticket prices and more PLF/XL attendance, partly offset by lower 3D/IMAX mix and more A-List subscription frequency.

Marcus likewise reported average ticket prices up 5.2% year over year in Q2 2026.

Where this concept fits
  • Patron monetization and ancillary revenueCurrent relationship
Admissions revenue per patron and concession revenue per patron separate ticket and food-and-beverage monetization from traffic, while other theatre revenue captures ticketing fees, advertising, loyalty, merchandise, rentals, and other ancillary streams.
  • Content supply and attendance
Wide-release film count frames the amount of broadly distributed content available to drive visits, total attendance measures realized patron volume, and comparable attendance growth isolates traffic across a relatively stable theatre base.
  • Variable costs, contribution, and operating leverage
Film exhibition cost rate and concession cost rate show the major directly variable revenue-sharing and product costs. Contribution margin per patron measures the dollars left after those direct costs, while operating expense rate shows how fixed and semi-fixed theatre costs leverage against changing revenue and attendance.
