Prestige beauty gross margin measures gross profit as a percentage of net sales before operating expenses.
Estée Lauder reported a 75.5% gross margin in fiscal 2026, up from 74.0% in fiscal 2025. Gross profit increased 7% to $11.362B.
Cost recovery and sales leverage both affected the margin
The company attributed the 150-basis-point expansion mainly to benefits from its Profit Recovery and Growth Plan and, to a lesser extent, sales leverage.
Inflation and incremental tariffs partly offset those benefits.
Gross margin stops before consumer and corporate spending
A higher gross margin does not automatically produce the same increase in operating margin because advertising, selling, administrative, restructuring, and other expenses sit below gross profit.
Compare it with adjusted operating margin and Fragrance organic net sales growth.
