Proved developed reserves are the portion of Proved Reserves expected to be recovered through existing wells and equipment or from installed infrastructure under the applicable reserve rules.

They are distinct from proved undeveloped reserves, which require additional development activity.

EOG example

EOG reported 3.346 billion BOE of net proved developed reserves at December 31, 2025, up from 2.566 billion BOE a year earlier.

The increase reflected development activity, reserve additions, acquisition effects, revisions, and production.

Why developed status matters

Two producers can report the same total proved reserves but have very different future capital needs.

A larger proved-developed share generally means more of the reserve base is tied to wells and facilities already in place. That does not make the reserves automatically more valuable, because decline rates, operating costs, commodity mix, and abandonment obligations still matter.

Investor use

Compare proved developed reserves with:

  • total proved reserves;
  • proved undeveloped reserves;
  • annual production;
  • future development costs; and
  • PUD conversion activity.

The developed/undeveloped split is a capital-intensity lens, not a complete valuation metric.
