PUD conversion volume measures the amount of proved undeveloped reserves transferred into proved developed reserves as development work is completed.
It is a useful bridge between reserve inventory and actual capital deployment.
EOG example
During 2025, EOG reported that it drilled and transferred 503 MMBOE of PUDs to proved developed reserves.
That is different from new reserve additions. Conversion changes the development status of already booked proved reserves rather than necessarily increasing total proved reserves by the same amount.
Why it matters
PUD conversion helps investors assess whether a producer is executing the development plan embedded in its reserve disclosure.
Compare conversion volume with:
- beginning PUD inventory;
- new PUD additions;
- production;
- development capital; and
- future development costs.
A high conversion rate is not automatically better if the projects require unattractive capital or generate weak returns.
