Hilton Schlosberg made his fortune by acquiring control of the business that became Monster Beverage with partners and helping turn a small beverage platform into the global Monster Energy company. [1][2][3]

An acquisition became the platform for Monster

Schlosberg and longtime business partner Rodney Sacks led a consortium that took control of the company that became Hansen Natural around 1990. The business later acquired the Hansen's natural soda and apple juice operation, giving the group an established beverage platform to build from. [1][3]

Schlosberg served in senior financial and operating roles for decades, including president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer before becoming co-chief executive. Monster's filings now identify him as vice chairman and chief executive officer. [2][3]

The pivotal product move came in 2002, when the company introduced Monster Energy. The oversized cans and energy-drink positioning created a new growth engine that ultimately became important enough for Hansen Natural to rename itself Monster Beverage in 2012. [1][3]

Long-term company building created the billionaire stake

Monster later expanded internationally and deepened distribution through its relationship with Coca-Cola, which bought a large minority stake in 2015. Schlosberg remained a major executive and shareholder as the company grew far beyond the beverage business acquired in the early 1990s. [1][2]

His path is strongly self-created because the fortune came from buying into a modest existing business and then participating in decades of operating growth and brand creation. The acquired starting platform keeps the story slightly different from founding a company from zero. [1][3][2]
