Base case is our central scenario. Bear and bull cases show how uncertainty around private holdings, retained proceeds, taxes and liabilities can move the estimate.

Phil Collins accumulated wealth through two major music careers at once: as a member of Genesis and as a solo artist. Decades of recordings, songwriting, touring and production created the catalog and retained capital that later became the foundation for a major rights transaction.
In 2022, Concord acquired publishing and recorded-music interests from Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, including their participation in the Genesis catalog. Forbes reported the broader deal at more than $300M and later estimated $230M of 2022 earnings for Genesis as a group, driven largely by the transaction.
The accounting challenge is personal attribution. A group transaction does not mean Collins personally received the full reported amount, and the public record does not disclose how the proceeds were split among the three members, the Genesis interests and any other rights arrangements. Grizzly Bulls therefore uses the deal as a major constraint on retained capital rather than as a direct Collins payday.
That evidence is still meaningful. The rights sale is real, person-linked and large enough to support the overall scale of the range, while Collins’s long solo and Genesis history makes substantial accumulated capital plausible. The missing allocation and current private balance sheet keep the profile at 3 out of 5 estimate confidence rather than 4.
Sources[1][2][3]A reported salary, company sale or brand valuation is not automatically current personal wealth. We show the pieces that can be tied to retained evidence and keep historical flows separate.
Concord acquired publishing and recorded-music catalogues from Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, including their participation in Genesis, in September 2022.
Sources[1]The shared Concord transaction is a constraint, not a personal receipt. We combine it with Collins’s long solo and Genesis earning history, then use a deliberately wide range because the public record never tells us his exact allocation of the deal.

Concord acquired Collins’s publishing and recorded-music interests alongside Banks, Rutherford and Genesis participation in 2022. Reporting placed the combined deal above $300M, but did not disclose Collins’s share. The estimate therefore uses the transaction only as a broad historical liquidity constraint alongside decades of solo and Genesis earnings.

Estimate history tracking started with the published estimate already in place.
This is the first retained snapshot, so there is no earlier comparable Grizzly Bulls estimate to show yet.
The acquisition included publishing and recorded-music catalogues plus the three members’ participation in Genesis.
Sources[1]Forbes estimated $230M of 2022 group earnings, driven primarily by the shared music-rights transaction.
