Base case is our central scenario. Bear and bull cases show how uncertainty around private holdings, retained proceeds, taxes and liabilities can move the estimate.
Rankings use the current base-case estimate and show the wider bear-to-bull range on the full list.

Sebastian Vettel's financial story starts with his run of four consecutive Formula 1 titles at Red Bull from 2010 to 2013. The championships made him one of the sport's most commercially valuable drivers, and he went on to race for Ferrari and Aston Martin. Those teams and seasons explain why accumulated pay is a central input to his wealth case, but a successful career alone cannot identify a personal portfolio.
Forbes' June 2018 highest-paid athletes list estimated Vettel earned $42.3M over the twelve months from June 2017 to June 2018. Its methodology includes salary, bonuses and commercial earnings, not simply guaranteed Ferrari base pay. The estimate is one historical earnings window. It would be incorrect to add a second assumed endorsement amount to the published total or count the full $42.3M as cash still held today.
Vettel left Ferrari after 2020 and spent his final two Formula 1 seasons with Aston Martin. His July 2022 retirement announcement ended his active F1 earning window but gave no account of the contractual receipts, taxes, savings and investments accumulated since his 2007 debut. A racing contract and a championship trophy have very different implications for personal net worth.
The modeled $125M central scenario, bracketed by $55M and $260M, reflects possible retained capital from a long high-paying career and subsequent investment outcomes. It is not a direct extrapolation of the 2018 Forbes line or an estimate of his family's holdings. A documented business stake, independently verified property equity or fuller pay-and-tax record would be far more useful than another unsourced net-worth headline.

Forbes estimated $42.3M of total athlete earnings for the June 2017 to June 2018 reporting window, including the publication's defined salary, bonuses and commercial income categories. This is gross historical income, not a current asset or just a racing salary.
Sources[1]Formula 1 confirmed Vettel's July 2022 decision to retire after his last Aston Martin season; that career decision did not establish a sale, payout or present value for his private assets.
Sources[2]Forbes estimated $42.3M of Vettel's earnings over June 2017 to June 2018, combining sporting and off-track income without disclosing personal savings. Four straight Red Bull championships and later Ferrari and Aston Martin contracts create a long earnings history, but cumulative contracted pay cannot be assumed fully retained. The $125M base case within $55M-$260M possibilities models unknown post-tax capital and investment performance, not a retirement payout or a verified holding.
