Source & methodology

Grizzly Bulls calculates the percentage change between each quarterly nominal GDP level and the level four quarters earlier, using BEA Table 1.1.5 in current-dollar, seasonally adjusted annual-rate terms. This year-over-year measure is not an annualized quarter-over-quarter rate. The first observation is 1948 Q1; BEA revisions to either level can change the derived history.

Calculation: 100 × (nominal GDP in quarter t / nominal GDP in quarter t−4 − 1), rounded to two decimal places.

Dataset: National Income and Product Accounts, Table 1.1.5, GDP line 1; derived from quarterly nominal GDP levels.

Unit: Percent change from the same quarter one year earlier. Frequency: Quarterly.

Expected refresh: Quarterly after the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases GDP estimates; previously published quarters can be revised. History target: 1948 onward.

Revision behavior: Revisable. Year-over-year growth is derived from the latest-known BEA nominal GDP levels four quarters apart. Revisions to either source quarter can change the result; historical release vintages are not preserved. Read revision methodology.

Vintage: Latest-known retained history. This page does not preserve prior publication vintages.

Source accessed: Oct 27, 2026.
