Source & methodology

Grizzly Bulls compares BEA real GDP in each quarter with the same quarter one year earlier, using chained (2017) dollar levels from Table 1.1.6, both seasonally adjusted at annual rates. This four-quarter percentage change differs from the BEA-published, annualized quarter-over-quarter growth rate. The first observation is 1948 Q1; revisions to the underlying GDP levels can change historical results.

Calculation: 100 × (real GDP in quarter t / real GDP in quarter t−4 − 1), rounded to two decimal places.

Dataset: National Income and Product Accounts, Table 1.1.6, GDP line 1; derived from quarterly real GDP levels.

Unit: Percent change from the same quarter one year earlier. Frequency: Quarterly.

Expected refresh: Quarterly after the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases GDP estimates; previously published quarters can be revised. History target: 1948 onward.

Revision behavior: Revisable. Year-over-year growth is derived from the latest-known BEA real GDP levels four quarters apart. Revisions to either source quarter can change the result; historical release vintages are not preserved. Read revision methodology.

Vintage: Latest-known retained history. This page does not preserve prior publication vintages.

Source accessed: Oct 27, 2026.
