BEA reports real GDP in chained (2017) dollars, seasonally adjusted at an annual rate. Official workbook values are converted from millions to billions where required, without changing BEA’s chain-weighting methodology. Historical values can be revised.

Dataset: National Income and Product Accounts, Table 1.1.6, GDP line 1.

Unit: Billions of chained (2017) U.S. dollars, annual rate. Frequency: Quarterly.

Expected refresh: Quarterly after the Bureau of Economic Analysis releases GDP estimates; previously published quarters can be revised. History target: 1947 onward.

Revision behavior: Revisable. BEA revises GDP estimates as additional information becomes available, including annual updates. This chart reflects the latest retained BEA NIPA workbook, not the estimate available on each historical date. Read revision methodology.

Vintage: Latest-known retained history. This page does not preserve prior publication vintages.
