Specialty insurance net premiums earned recognize retained written premium as the insurer provides policy coverage over the insured period.

Arch Capital's insurance segment reported $1.880B of net premiums earned in Q2 2026, down 4.5% from $1.969B in Q2 2025.

Earned premium lags written premium

Arch said Q2 earned premium reflected changes in net premiums written over the previous five quarters. That timing means current-quarter writings should not be treated as same-quarter earned revenue.

Earned premium is the denominator for underwriting ratios such as the combined ratio. A lower earned-premium base can also pressure expense ratios when operating costs do not decline proportionally.
