Industrial gases EMEA sales growth measures year-over-year growth in Linde's Europe, Middle East, and Africa segment sales. Linde reported 7% EMEA sales growth in the second quarter of 2026, to $2.303B from $2.162B.

Reported growth can coexist with weaker physical demand

A basic regional sales-growth calculation is (current-period sales - prior-period sales) / prior-period sales. Using the rounded balances, EMEA sales increased by about $141M. Dividing $141M by $2.162B gives about 6.5%. That is consistent with Linde's reported 7% growth because the published dollar balances and bridge percentages are rounded from more precise underlying figures.

The quarterly bridge shows why the headline can be misleading if read as a demand measure. EMEA had 3% currency, 2% price/mix, 2% cost pass-through and 1% acquisitions/divestitures, partly offset by a 1% negative volume impact. The disclosed percentage-point bridge sums to 7% after rounding.

Linde said the volume decline was driven primarily by weakness in the manufacturing end market. That regional demand signal matters even though reported sales increased. Currency translation, price/mix, pass-through and acquired businesses can all lift reported revenue while physical activity moves in the opposite direction.

The bridge also changes how profitability should be read

EMEA operating profit increased 6% while sales increased 7%, and the region reported a 35.7% operating margin, down from 36.1% a year earlier. Cost pass-through is important because Linde says it has minimal impact on operating profit. Adding pass-through revenue can expand the sales denominator without contributing comparable profit.

In Q2, that effect changed the direction of the margin comparison. Linde said EMEA margin was 40 basis points lower on the reported basis but 10 basis points higher excluding cost pass-through. The 2% pass-through contribution therefore helped reported sales growth while simultaneously making the headline margin comparison look weaker than the underlying conversion comparison.

The first-half figures provide another period. EMEA sales were $4.474B in the first six months of 2026, up 7%, while first-half operating margin was 35.9% versus 35.8% a year earlier. The quarterly negative volume signal should therefore be preserved without turning it into a claim that the region's overall economics deteriorated by the same amount.

EMEA is an issuer-defined regional perimeter

Linde's EMEA segment spans roughly 50 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The region combines different currencies, end markets, pricing environments and pass-through exposure. Its reported growth rate is not a standardized measure of European industrial production or a pure organic-growth statistic.

For regional context, compare Americas sales growth with APAC sales growth, and read EMEA growth alongside EMEA operating margin. That keeps reported revenue growth, physical demand and profit conversion as related but distinct questions.

Where this concept fits
  • Regional sales-growth comparisonCurrent relationship
Americas, APAC and EMEA sales growth preserve Linde's geography-level growth comparisons while keeping each region's sales base and reported bridge separate.
  • Demand, price, currency and pass-through bridgeCurrent relationship
The three regional sales-growth owners retain the underlying volume or volume/equipment, price/mix, cost pass-through, currency and acquisition effects needed to distinguish reported growth from physical demand and operating conversion.
