Satellite radio self-pay subscribers are the users SiriusXM classifies as paying customers rather than short-term third-party-funded promotional users.

SiriusXM reported 31.345 million self-pay subscribers at December 31, 2025.

"Self-pay" is broader than full-price month-to-month service

The issuer's definition includes users who have paid or agreed to pay a subscription fee, including a promotional price. It can also include subscriptions paid by an automaker for three years or longer.

Lifetime subscribers remain in the self-pay population even though, in almost all cases, the related subscription revenue was fully recognized in earlier periods. Plans with multiple registered users can also count each registered user as a self-pay subscriber.

Those details make the definition more specific than simply "people currently paying the standard monthly rate."

Some low-price trials are deliberately excluded

SiriusXM says certain trial users paying a de minimis promotional amount are not counted as self-pay because management does not view that payment as evidence of near-term intent to subscribe.

Shorter third-party-funded trials instead belong in paid-promotional subscribers.

Self-pay is the key retention population

SiriusXM's average self-pay monthly churn is calculated on this population. That makes self-pay subscribers central to recurring-revenue and retention analysis.

Still, the year-end count is only a stock measure. Use net subscriber additions to understand the annual change and weighted-average subscribers to analyze period revenue.
