Satellite radio weighted-average subscribers measure the subscriber base across a reporting period rather than at one point in time.
SiriusXM reported 32.797 million weighted-average subscribers for 2025, down 1% from 33.292 million in 2024.
Period revenue needs a period denominator
SiriusXM ended 2025 with 32.927 million subscribers, but that December 31 count did not generate the entire year's revenue.
A weighted-average base better matches income earned throughout the period because it reflects changes in subscriber scale as the year progresses.
That is why this metric serves a different analytical purpose from ending subscribers.
SiriusXM uses a daily weighted average for ARPU
The company's ARPU formula divides monthlyized eligible revenue by the daily weighted-average number of subscribers for the period.
This makes the denominator a direct part of the issuer's monetization calculation rather than a general-purpose customer statistic.
Do not replace it with a simple beginning-and-ending average
An arithmetic average of the first and last subscriber counts assumes subscriber changes occurred evenly through the period. SiriusXM's daily weighting preserves the actual timing more closely.
That distinction matters when additions, deactivations, promotions, or conversion trends are concentrated in particular parts of the year.
Use weighted-average subscribers for period-based revenue and ARPU analysis, ending subscribers for point-in-time scale, and net subscriber additions for the change between periods.
