Security monitoring subscriber system assets measure the balance-sheet value of equipment and installation costs for systems that ADT continues to own.

ADT reported $2.791 billion of subscriber system assets, net, at December 31, 2025, down from $2.981 billion a year earlier.

ADT retains ownership of the physical system

In company-owned transactions, ADT capitalizes the equipment and installation costs and may retrieve the system when the customer relationship ends.

That makes these assets economically different from security equipment sold outright to a customer.

The balance is net of substantial accumulated depreciation

At year-end 2025, ADT reported a gross carrying amount of approximately $7.146 billion and accumulated depreciation of approximately $4.355 billion.

The $2.791 billion net balance therefore reflects a large installed asset base at different stages of its depreciation life.

The accounting life is tied to customer economics

ADT pools subscriber system assets by acquisition period and recognizes subscriber system asset depreciation using an accelerated method over an estimated 15-year customer relationship.

The company says the assets provide future economic benefits through monitoring and related services revenue, which is why the accounting model is tied to customer relationship duration rather than only physical equipment life.
