Solid waste residential collection volume measures the revenue impact from changes in residential collection activity.

WM reported residential collection volume of -2.9% in Q2 2026, compared with -3.9% for the first half of 2026.

Contract shedding can reduce volume intentionally

WM said collection volume declined partly because it intentionally shed lower-margin residential business, while residential losses improved sequentially. A negative volume measure can therefore reflect portfolio pruning as well as weaker underlying activity.

Use it with residential collection yield and Collection and Disposal volume. The percentage remains a revenue-impact measure rather than a literal household or pickup count.
