Unit sales can rise simply because the overall vehicle market expanded.
Market share helps separate industry growth from company-specific competitive performance.
Stellantis, for example, reports regional market share alongside shipments and revenue. Its North American market share was 7.4% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with 7.0% a year earlier.
Market definitions matter
Automotive market share can differ depending on:
