Payments international transaction revenue is revenue earned from cross-border transaction processing and currency-conversion activity under the network's reporting definition.
For Visa, a transaction is cross-border when the country of origin of the issuer differs from that of the merchant.
This makes international transaction revenue a cross-border monetization measure, not total international revenue.
Cross-border growth can have outsized revenue effects
Cross-border transactions can carry different economics from domestic payments, so mix matters as well as total volume.
Visa reported fiscal third-quarter 2026 international transaction revenue of $3.853 billion, up 6%. Over the same quarter, cross-border volume excluding intra-Europe grew 12% and total cross-border volume grew 13% on a constant-dollar basis.
Revenue growth and volume growth need not match because currency conversion, geography, pricing, product mix, and intra-Europe treatment can differ.
Keep the denominator definition visible
Visa publishes both total cross-border volume growth and a version excluding intra-Europe transactions. Mastercard also reports cross-border volume growth, but revenue-category presentation differs.
The investor task is to connect international activity to monetization without pretending the revenue line or volume population is standardized across networks.
Primary source
Payments international transaction revenue is most useful as a cross-border monetization measure. Preserve geography, intra-region treatment, currency conversion, pricing, and volume definition.
