Slot handle is the amount wagered through slot machines over a period under a casino operator's stated methodology.
It is the volume denominator behind slot hold:
1Slot Hold Percentage
2= Slot Win ÷ Slot HandleHandle is not casino revenue, customer deposits, or the amount players ultimately lose.
Handle can include the same money more than once
A player can win credits and wager those credits again. Each wager can add to handle even though no new cash entered the casino.
That makes slot handle a turnover measure rather than a measure of unique customer spending.
For example, a player might bring $100, play many rounds, and generate several hundred dollars of handle before leaving with some portion of the original money. The casino's economic result is the net win, not the gross handle.
Handle separates activity from hold
Suppose a property reports:
1Slot handle = $5.0 billion
2Slot hold = 10%
3Implied slot win = about $500 millionIf handle rises 5% while hold falls from 10% to 9%, slot win can decline despite more wagering activity.
The volume and rate should therefore be analyzed separately.
What can move slot handle
Handle can change with:
- visitation and customer traffic;
- length of play;
- machine count and availability;
- game denomination and mix;
- promotional activity and loyalty programs;
- seasonality and events;
- property openings, closures, or renovations; and
- local economic conditions.
A higher handle is evidence of more reported wagering turnover, not automatically more profitable customers.
Cross-property comparisons need context
A destination resort, a regional casino, and a high-volume Asian integrated resort can have very different slot mixes and customer behavior.
Before comparing handle, check whether the operator changed the property set, machine mix, reporting basis, or treatment of promotional credits.
Handle should also stay distinct from table games drop and rolling-chip volume. All three measure gaming activity, but they are constructed differently.
Current filing examples
MGM Resorts reported $6.353 billion of slot handle at its Regional Operations in the second quarter of 2026, with $634 million of slot win and a 10.0% win percentage.
Las Vegas Sands reported $6.382 billion of slot handle at Marina Bay Sands for the same quarter and separately disclosed a 4.6% slot hold percentage. The lower percentage does not make the raw handle directly comparable with MGM's regional U.S. business because property, market, game, and reporting mix differ.

Slot handle is a wagering-volume measure. Pair it with slot hold percentage to understand whether changes in slot win came from activity, realized hold, or both.
