Video game recurrent consumer spending mix measures the share of total bookings or revenue generated from ongoing player monetization.

Take-Two reported RCS at 84% of fiscal Q1 2027 Net Bookings, up from 83% a year earlier. RCS also represented 84% of GAAP net revenue in both periods on the company's rounded presentation.

The denominator has to stay explicit

An RCS percentage can be calculated against net bookings or against GAAP net revenue.

Those denominators answer related but different questions because bookings and revenue can recognize activity in different periods. Mixing the two can create a false trend.

A high mix changes release dependence, not business certainty

A larger RCS share can make quarterly economics less dependent on initial full-game sales, but it does not make the spending contractual.

Virtual currency, add-on content, advertising, and in-game purchases still depend on engagement and content performance. The mix should therefore be paired with the absolute recurrent consumer spending, not treated as a retention rate.

Where this concept fits
  • Launch sales and ongoing engagementCurrent relationship
Full-game bookings capture release-driven purchases, while live services and recurrent consumer spending capture post-launch monetization. Recurrent-spending mix shows how much of the total comes from ongoing engagement.
  • Bookings and revenue recognition
Net bookings follow current-period sales activity more closely than GAAP revenue, while deferred net revenue explains timing differences when online-enabled game economics are recognized across periods.
  • Platform, distribution, and geographic mix
Mobile and console bookings describe where players spend, digital bookings describe how transactions are distributed, and international bookings show where sales are generated. Keeping those dimensions separate avoids turning platform, channel, and geography into one normalized mix measure.
