CarMax defines a digitally enabled transaction as either an omni retail sale or an online retail sale.

The funnel matters

CarMax separates digitally enabled transactions into:

Omni Sales Rate, where customers complete some but not all defined transaction activities online; and
Online Retail Sales Rate, where customers complete all four specified activities online.

That means the 81% figure should not be interpreted as 81% of vehicles being sold fully online.

Investor use

The metric helps show how deeply digital capabilities are embedded in the sales process, but it does not by itself prove lower acquisition cost, higher conversion, or better margins.
