Used auto omni sales rate measures the share of retail vehicle sales where customers complete some, but not all, of the issuer's defined purchase activities online.

It captures hybrid online and in-store transactions.

CarMax example

CarMax reported a 68% omni sales rate in fiscal 2026.

Its definition includes retail sales where customers complete at least one, but not all, of the four activities used to define a fully online retail sale, plus certain additional online steps such as financing pre-qualification or appointment setting.

Why it matters

A high omni rate can indicate that digital tools are becoming part of the normal purchase journey even when the transaction is not fully online.

That is analytically different from Online Retail Sales Rate.

Definition risk

Omni definitions are issuer-specific. One retailer may count a digital financing step while another requires a more complete digital checkout flow.

Investors should therefore compare the underlying customer actions, not only the percentage label.

Together with digitally enabled transactions and fully online sales, the measure shows how customers divide activity across digital and physical channels.
